ShelfBuddy in the browser: Help

Your library from the phone, on the big screen at app.shelfbuddy.de. Answers to the most common questions.

How do I connect a browser?

Open app.shelfbuddy.de on your computer. On the phone: Settings › ShelfBuddy in the browser › switch web access on, then "Connect a browser" and scan the code on the screen. The phone first shows you which browser that is (program, device, approximate place). Confirm only if that matches you. If you open app.shelfbuddy.de on the phone itself, a button opens the app directly instead of the QR code.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no sign-up, no e-mail address and no password. Your phone is the key: it generates the credentials and hands them to the browser, encrypted, when you connect. You need ShelfBuddy Premium in the app.

What is the recovery phrase?

24 words that make up the key to your storage space. You only need it when you set up a new phone without the old library coming along via iCloud or Google Drive. Write it down and keep it safe. Whoever has the phrase can read your library. We do not know it and cannot restore it.

When are changes synced?

While the app is open on the phone and the browser tab is visible, a change shows up on the other side within a few seconds. If the app is closed, it picks up the changes from the browser the next time you open it; the browser catches up when the page loads and when you return to the tab.

Safari: why do I have to reconnect?

Safari deletes a site's data when the site has not been opened for seven days. The browser's credentials are then gone and you simply connect it again; your library is not affected. Chrome, Firefox and Edge keep the data.

How do I disconnect a browser or delete everything?

In the app's settings under "ShelfBuddy in the browser" you see every connected browser and can disconnect each one. If you switch web access off entirely, your storage space is deleted from the server immediately and every browser is disconnected. In the browser itself, "Sign out" removes the local data.

What is stored on the server?

Only an encrypted copy of your library and a few technical details (size, time, storage space identifier). Only your phone and your browsers have the key. Details are in the privacy policy.
